Accessories for Productivity

Table of Contents

If you are new to Chromebooks or an avid user, finding the right Chromebook accessories can turn any workspace into a productive powerhouse. Chromebooks are dead-simple to use and straightforward in how they work. Chrome OS is very versatile and compatible with all kinds of different accessories. To get the most out of your experience you have to get what works for you. This includes features and price.

Here is a list of some of the best Chromebook accessories that get the job done. We included products at both ends of the price spectrum.

    USB-C to USB-A Adapters

By far one of the most needed Chromebook accessories. Most chromebooks rely heavily on USB-C ports to handle most of the connectivity. There are even some, like Lenovo’s Ideapad Duet, that rely on one USB-C for all external hardware connections. An adapter is a must-have for anyone trying to get more out of their Chromebook. The Nonda USB-C adapter is extremely portable and makes anything with USB-A usable again. If you want more screen real estate, or need extra ports then the Vava 7-in-1 USB-C Hub definitely has you covered. It has 3 USB 3.0 ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 PD charging port, 1 SD card reader, and 1 TF card reader that can all be in use simultaneously.

    Power: Keep it charged

The cool thing about having a modern Chromebook is that anything with USB-C output will be able to charge it. This positions it perfectly for on-the-go charging with a portable charger. The Anker PowerCore+ 26800mAh PD 45W with a 60W PD charger has enough juice to charge any Chromebook and still have some leftover for your phone. For $100 less you can opt for just a charger. AUKEY has a 60W PD Charger perfect for all USB-C devices and charges them fast.

Find on AMAZON: AUKEY Focus USB C Charger 60W PD Charger PD 3.0 [ GaN Power ]($27)

Find on AMAZON: Anker PowerCore+ 26800mAh PD 45W with 60W PD Charge ($130)

    Audio

Most Chromebooks are slim, light, and don’t pack a lot of punch when it comes to audio. To get the most out of your Chromebook you need some good speakers. Good speakers can get expensive. If you want to keep the cost to a minimum the Creative Pebble V2 will give you a lot of sound and keep the price down while doing it. On the other end of the spectrum is Google’s Nest Audio. It’s a Cast-enabled speaker that seriously improves on the older Google Home by producing amazing audio. Cutting out the wires by casting or using Bluetooth lets you move Nest Audio anywhere in the room creating more desk space. If you need even more sound, buy two and cast it to different rooms.

Find on Amazon: Creative Pebble V2ne ($30)

Find on Google: Nest Audio ($99)

    Mouse

The touchpad has come a long way but it can’t replace a mouse for speed and precision. An external mouse is a must-have to stay productive while working from home. There are not many wired USB-C mice. Bluetooth or a mouse with a wireless USB dongle is your best best. You don’t have to break the bank on either of these choices, here are one of each with close to 5 stars from Amazon.

Find on Amazon: USB-C Mouse ($13)

Find on Amazon: Bluetooth Mouse ($18)

    Entertainment Accessories

Chromebooks have never been strong in the gaming department, but now you have the choice of Android or Stadia. There is a vast selection of games available for Android, and most work exactly the same on Chromebook. If you want a real gaming experience you can always add a controller to the games that support it.

Stadia is a digital game library that streams anywhere to your Chrome browser. With Google’s Stadia, you can play console-quality games right on your Chromebook. It comes in free or $9.99 per month subscription for Stadia Pro. The main difference from the free version is there is no monthly fee and you pay for access to the games. Most cost anywhere between $50 to $100 each. Free users will also not get higher streaming quality and free games released by Google. Keep in mind, Google is always offering perks for Chromebooks with lengthy free trials.

    Video and Music Streaming

Google’s new $50 Android TV with Chromecast is priced to compete with streamers like the Roku Streaming Stick Plus and Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. From my personal use, it raises the bar quite a bit compared to other streamers. If you’re tied into the Google ecosystem, use YouTube TV, Netflix, HBO Max or simply need all your streaming services in the same place, the Chromecast with Google TV is an outstanding choice.

    Monitor

Adding a monitor is another great way to boost productivity when working from home. A larger or having multiple displays equals more productivity in my book. This Dell 27inch Monitor is the perfect size for any desk.

    Other Chromebook Accessories

Working from home can be stressful if you don’t have a productive place to work. You don’t need to go out and buy a new Chromebook to be more productive. Adding a few Chromebook accessories can enhance the one you already have and save you a few hundred dollars in the process. If you do need a good Chromebook check out the Lenovo Chromebook Duet or Samsung’s high-end Galaxy Chromebook.
