What’s up, guys? Mr. Technology here, bringing you some fresh tech news!

We’ve all been waiting for it and it’s finally here. OpenAI’s ChatGPT has made its way into the mobile scene with a brand new app on the iOS App Store. But hey, Android users, don’t feel left out, you’re next in line! OpenAI has promised that a ChatGPT app will be dropping on Android “soon” .

So, what’s ChatGPT, you ask? Well, it’s pretty much your basic AI chatbot, but on steroids. This thing is built around a genuine language model and is one of the most advanced AI chatbots out there. It lets you ask questions and have conversations with it, and it’s pretty good at mimicking human-like conversation. Heck, it’s so good that even Microsoft is using it for its Bing Chat. But hey, it’s not perfect and we’re still a ways off from AI models fully replacing our reliable factual sources.

ChatGPT on iOS

Up until now, ChatGPT has been a no-show on mobile devices in its native form. We’ve had a few third-party developers giving it a shot and most of us have been accessing it through our web browsers. But that’s about to change. The ChatGPT model is now live on the iOS App Store, with a little footnote for Android users that their time is coming soon.

We don’t have an exact timeline on when “soon” is for OpenAI, but we’re hoping it’s not too far off. When the app does land on Android, we’re expecting it to be pretty much the same as the current iOS version. For those willing to shell out some cash, you’ll have access to a more beefed-up version of the language model, GPT-4, along with faster response times. For everyone else, you’ll still get access to Whisper, OpenAI’s voice recognition software, and the ability to sync across multiple devices. Basically, everything you could do before, but now in a handy native app.

This move comes as Google is ramping up its own AI efforts with new initiatives like Duet AI and generative AI in Google Search. These aren’t exactly chatbots, but they could potentially be a good source of information, as long as the language model can tell the difference between fact and fiction.
