With Amazon dominating the retail industry Walmart has been teaming up with anyone and everyone to gain an edge. Last year they teamed up with Microsoft to improve digital innovation in retail with inventory replenishing robots. Now Walmart wants to team with Google to assist you in ordering products. In an effort not to fall too far behind Amazon, Google and Walmart are teaming up to release Voice Order.

Why Walmart waited so long to step into the assistant ordering arena is a complete mystery. Voice Order will fall right in line with all the other assistant services. You simply ask Google Assistant to talk to Walmart and everything you order will be added to your grocery list. Amazon has been doing this with its Alexa products for quite a while now.

One of the major reasons this should work out well for Walmart is that Google says they have more than a billion devices running its assistant software. This puts them in a good position to reach more customers than Amazon will get close to for at least a few years.

Since you can order almost anything from Walmart and they will be the first major retailer to work with Google Assistant to order products, this should help other retailers do the same. Every Android phone, Google Home, or Google Assistant integrated device will be able to order anything by just saying “Hey Google, talk to Walmart”.
